“Just tell yourself, Duckie, you’re really quite lucky!” Dr. Seuss

*******

Do you believe that some people are lucky and others are not?

Here’s my question: Do you think an “unlucky” person can change things so that he or she shifts to the “lucky” column? Can luck be cultivated or developed?

Is there even such a thing as “luck” and, in the greater scheme of things, does the concept of luck even matter?

————————————————————–

NEVER underestimate the power and importance of LUCK.

In this regard, a quote by Tim Rice is worth pondering: “We all dream a lot—some are lucky, some are not. But if you think it, want it, dream it, then it’s real. You are what you feel.”

Or, consider these wise words by Maya Angelou: “If one is lucky, a solitary fantasy can totally transform one million realities.”

YES, DOTS believes one’s luck can be cultivated and improved!

When that happens, the right doors will appear before you—offering you the chance to open them and step into their threshold; these opportunities are 3-d portals to the Universal Field of Possibilities.

Here are some powerful affirmations for improving one’s situation, luck-provoking statements that I found online at Affirmations-for-Success.com (http://www.affirmations-for-success.com/power-affirmations.html) :

I am always in the right place at the right time.

I expect the best and I get it NOW!

I always get everything that is for my best and highest good.

Everything good is coming to me easily and effortlessly.

I am divinely guided in all I do.

I expect life to give me what is best for me.

I deserve the best and it comes to me NOW!

This is a rich universe and there is plenty for all of us.

I now eagerly await my greatest good.

I expect good fortune every moment of my life.

I am open to receive the abundant good that God has for me.

*******

Pasted below is an EXCELLENT link to a relevant article (on luck and lucky charms) by the Wall Street Journal. A quote from that report (by a scientist) reads: “Our results suggest that the activation of a superstition can indeed yield performance-improving effects.” In other words, what we BELIEVE affects how much LUCK we experience in our lives! Our BELIEF affects the OUTCOME!

Here’s the link to the Wall Street Journal article:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703648304575212361800043460.html

Above ALL: be grateful for what you already have and the Universe will delight in surprising you with events and outcomes that appear to be LUCKY.

Consider approaching what you want this way: I AM BLESSED. I AM HAPPY AND CONTENT WITH WHAT I ALREADY HAVE BUT I WANT MORE. MORE JOY. MORE PEACE. MORE ABUNDANCE WITHIN EVERY AREA OF MY LIFE.

Then, give profound, heartfelt THANKS to God for all of your many blessing (small & large) frequently and consistently.

I believe that the following, anonymous quote sums up the essence of the truth of life (and luck) beautifully and poetically: “If you are lucky enough to find a way of life you love, you have to find the courage to live it.”

Dance of the Spirit Wishes You Many Blessings . . . Now and Forever.

Love Is Letting Go Of Fear

“Love is the total absence of fear. Love asks no questions. Its natural state is one of extension and expansion, not comparison and measurement. ” Gerald Jampolsky

*************

Fear is the dark room where we develop our negatives—-I’ve always loved the wisdom of that saying. In truth, fear is the ultimate thief; it steals our dreams.

There are two basic human emotions: fear and love . . . all other emotions are variations of these two.

In his book “The Biology of Belief,” cell biologist Dr. Bruce Lipton tells us that our cells are actually digital, that is, in the way they act. In other words, they are either growing or dying. In his research, Dr. Lipton noted that when cells were stressed, the DNA actually started to die. The cells stopped assimilating nutrients, and growth essentially ground to a halt. In his conclusion, Dr. Lipton noted that the only thing cells really need to thrive is love.

I found Dr. Lipton’s intriguing notation very interesting. You’d think that a celebrated cell biologist would be talking about oxygen, vital nutrients, temperature, or any number of physical requirements for a living cell to flourish. However, Dr. Lipton emphasizes that LOVE is the essential ingredient for life.

Human Beings are organisms comprised of trillions of cells; if our cells aren’t thriving, neither are we. There is a well-known syndrome, one that occurs in babies and small children, called “Failure to Thrive.” This unfortunate condition is the result of inadequate emotional nurturing during the early stages of life. In institutional settings, babies might be getting all of their physical needs met; yet, if they do not receive adequate holding, cuddling and other forms of human touch and interaction, they fail to gain weight. These children are often listless and have depressed immune systems. In extreme cases, children suffering from “Failure to Thrive” syndrome eventually die.

What is Fear? And what does Fear have to do with Love? I once heard somewhere that “Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real.” Most of our fears are truly figments of our imaginations. Our culture seems to have made a national pastime (via the 24/7 media feeding frenzy) of looking into the dark recesses of human frailties, emphasizing over and over again, every possible horrific event fueled by hate and loathing. Think about what the world would be like if the mass media outlets gave equal time to the positive potentials of living life on this spectacular multi-colored planet. Equal time to LOVE.

Of all the forms of fear, I think worry is the most destructive and insidious. Worry is a waste of time and energy. Worry is known to cause chronic stress in our bodies, the kind of stress that suppresses our immune systems, making us more susceptible to disease.

Most (if not all) of the things we worry about will never happen. If they do, worrying about them has made no difference in the outcome. In fact, the opposite is true. Since we tend to attract those things we hold foremost in our minds, if we worry about an outcome, we are drawing it towards us, not pushing it away.

Love, on the other hand is the opposite of all forms of Fear. In a state of Love, we are in a state of Grace. The light of Love illuminates the dark corners of our minds, those shadowy places that harbor Worry and Fear.

It’s true that “stuff happens”. Sometimes, you just have to “hunker down” and wait for the storm of crisis to pass—while doing this, strive to focus on all aspects of your life that reflect LOVE.

Love breeds optimism and Faith. At the risk of sounding cliché, Love conquers all.

From a strictly vibrational standpoint, Love is much higher up “the scale” than Fear. In his book “Power vs. Force”, physician David R. Hawkins offers us a “map” of consciousness. This map is actually an exponential scale (from zero to one thousand) with zero being a vibration which cannot sustain life . . . and one thousand representing enlightenment.

On Dr. Hawkins’ scale, FEAR ranks at number one hundred, whereas, LOVE is ranked five hundred and above. The bottom line? Higher “vibrations” simply make you feel better.

Yeah, this poignant truth certainly brings to mind those snappy lyrics from the Beach Boys hit “Good Vibrations”: “I’m pickin’ up good vibrations, She’s giving me excitations, I’m pickin’ up good vibrations . . . . Gotta keep those lovin’ good vibrations A happenin’ . . . . Ahhhhhhhh, Good good good good vibrations!”

When you replace the fear in your life with love, you thrive, in every sense of that word. Then, miraculous things seem to happen: Relationships improve. You become vibrantly healthy. And, via the phenomenon of synchronicity, people and circumstances flow into your life in magical ways, designed to broaden and enhance your experience on this little spinning globe.

If we view life from a broader perspective, with the knowledge that we are all, each and every one of us, infinite beings . . . then, there is really nothing to fear. We have always existed, always will exist, and our lives are playing out in perfect harmony with the Universe.

THOUGHTS ON THE MOST MYSTICAL SEASON by Sandra Cline

“Autumn is the eternal corrective. It is ripeness and color and a time of maturity;
but it is also breadth, and depth, and distance. What man [or woman] can stand with Autumn on a hilltop and fail to see the span of the world and the meaning of the rolling hills that reach to the far horizon?”
Hal Borland

*************

We get a lot of questions at Dance of the Spirit regarding how best to develop one’s intuition or overall sense of the mystical—how best to attune to the natural mystery of the world, the MAGIC that surrounds us within any Moment of Now.

My best answer: Begin by enhancing your attunement to the natural world. Do this with quiet deliberation.

Autumn is the best time to attune to Nature. Why? Because the Fall season brings with it a special energetic vibration. Have you ever heard the following expression?
“The veil between the worlds is thinnest on (or near) Halloween.”

My home backs up to a National Forest and I adore the seasonal Autumn Equinox in my neck of the woods. A couple of years ago, on that momentous day, the weather was beautiful, as near-perfect as one gets to experience in a lifetime.

As I sat on my patio, mid-morning, facing the tree-laden hillside, I noticed that a half-moon silently hovered in the azure sky. It was then that my attention was drawn to a beautiful, sun-illuminated spider-web, delicately but securely attached to the trunk of a nearby tree, rocking to and fro in the gentle breeze.

What impressed me most was the fact that a long piece of silken thread also secured this web to another nearby tree; the span between the two trees was approximately eight feet!

The spider is a fundamental dream symbol, the meaning of which we think we know, at least in one sense, as “the weaver of dreams”. The spider is also a respected representative of the creative force behind the Golden Web — that which connects and binds us as a Cosmic Family to one another.

The famous psychologist, Carl Jung, felt that a Spider’s Web is the perfect symbol for such wholeness due to its formation (its circular shape), construction and complexity. He also called similar types of circular symbols “mandalas” and said that they hold valuable meaning.

Symbolically, the spider and her web may represent an integration of the kinds of ideas that lead to greater self-awareness, resulting in feelings of completeness. It follows then that such webs are profoundly spiritual archetypes, encouraging greater self-understanding—even while we derive meaning and satisfaction from the intricate framework and interplay of our own interwoven and complex lives.

On that magical autumn day, as I continued to marvel at the engineering feat that manifested as the outdoor spider’s web, my husband joined me. We sat together, in awe, while we studied its shimmering magnificence.

How had the spider managed the incredible span from one tree to another?

“It must have ridden the wind,” I heard my husband softly observe. I knew at once that he was right. This arachnid Creature of Nature, pure and radiant, rode the wind to accomplish its lofty goal. No matter how impossible or outrageous its intent might have appeared from the outset, it simply surrendered to the glorious seasonal breezes—giving another, profound meaning to the phrase “let nature take its course”.

So I asked myself: What’s keeping me from doing the same thing? And I answered my own, provocative question: I can and will “ride the glorious, seasonal winds of life” toward each and every goal I can conjure, trusting in divine breezes to carry me to my final destination.

I cannot physically “see” every magical web embedded in the forest near my home; the distance (and the light-play) doesn’t allow me to see them all. However, the TRUTH was shown to me and now I know that they are there.

It is such a personal, secret, sacred thing, such KNOWING. From now until the end of time, within any moment of NOW, I can look in the direction of a particular (long-gone) autumnal shining web and see it with my heart.

A master wordsmith, the British poet, John Dryden summed it up best when he wrote: “Our souls sit close and silently within, And their own webs from their own entrails spin; And when eyes meet far off, our sense is such, That, spider-like, we feel the tenderest touch.”

[As the Executive Editor of Dance of the Spirit, SANDRA CLINE holds a basic belief about the wonder of life: that there is no sensation more magical or mystical than the surprise of loving and being loved.
When Sandra decided to write Pug Sheridan, a story about the indestructible soul of female friendship, she found that her formative years (while growing up in Alabama) had forged an undeniable truth, one that she found lodged within her heart---that EVERYONE, without exception, is tied to the land and to each other, across the world and beyond.
DIVINE APPOINTMENTS (by DOTS founder Sandra Cline)

Have you ever had the feeling that many people fill their appointment calendars (weeks or months in advance) just so that they don’t have to actually stop and feel their feelings?

(Perhaps, they are unconsciously avoiding the prospect of considering what it is that they really want, or what they really want to do.)

Remember, LIFE proceeds (and evolves) according to a Cosmic Calendar—a Universal Program. If we acknowledge and get in touch with Divine Time, the “Eternal Cycle of Days”, then each and every day on Earth will feel like a Holiday.

Remember, anything and everything (every experience and personal interaction that we have) is tied into SYNCHRONICITY. Synchronicity is the language of the Universe—these small, medium, and profound “coincidences” are little lighted signposts designed to provide divine guidance to us—guidance that can contribute to our soul’s growth if we are paying attention.

Oprah Winfrey is quoted as saying: “I know for sure that whenever your gut is out of kilter, trouble awaits. Your gut is your inner compass. Whenever you have to consult with other people for an answer, you’re headed in the wrong direction.”

This is an insightful thought regarding the importance of acknowledging (and honoring) intuition, an innate gift that each of us is blessed with.

Intuition and spiritual growth are inherently linked. Thus, it follows that it is worth cultivating your “inner compass”, especially as it relates to identifying those moments that are identified with synchronicity.

This brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “Get with the Program” doesn’t it?!? :^)

Namaste from DOTS.

GIVE YOUR STORY A VOICE by Patrica Omoqui

“Follow effective action with quiet reflection. From the quiet reflection will come even more effective action.” Peter F. Drucker

*****

As I was cleaning out a closet this week, I found a large plastic container packed with years and years of my personal journals. It made me smile.

I guess I have always been a writer at heart. Putting pen to paper is a way I soothe my soul, drawing depth and texture from my human story.

In my teens and early twenties, writing was particularly healing for me. Poetry and prose gave my heart a voice. As I honored them, painful experiences have added color and design to the tapestry I am becoming. I am committed to emerging from pain better rather than bitter.

For almost a decade I stopped writing. I got busy; I didn’t feel the urge. Then, in my early thirties, life’s intensities escalated, pushing me to crisis. As my inner discomfort grew, I found myself in line at a store buying a new journal. Again, writing became my channel for healing.

Giving voice to the stories I am living helps me understand my own perspectives and those of others. I grow as a person. I harvest hidden pearls of wisdom. Rather than allowing my pain to fester, I give it an outlet. Old energy is brought up and released. Writing is my way. There are plenty of others.

Those who suppress their stories seem to think they can bypass the effect their past has on them. Yet our deep, subconscious traumas do not go away by themselves. They lurk in the recesses of our soul. They surface again and again until they are owned and brought to resolution.

Do you try to avoid your painful memories? Are you harboring a wound in your heart? Is there a secret you’ve carried for years, fearful of releasing it?

What we avoid expressing is always there. No matter how busy we keep ourselves, no matter how many strategies we employ to distract and numb us, our pain brews within, draining us. It reveals itself subtly (or boldly) as fatigue, discouragement, pessimism, or even depression and despair.

What has happened has happened. We can’t change the past. What we can decide is how often we relive the situation in our mind, maintaining our resistance to it. Can you see that agonizing incidents that may have happened in mere seconds or minutes, can consume your whole life if you let them? These situations occurred days, months, years even eons ago yet we keep them alive in every moment that we replay them for ourselves. The past is gone. No one else is doing this to us. We are choosing to dwell on unhappy thoughts.

If you find painful memories relentlessly churning in your head, why not take charge? Don’t let your thoughts idle on rerun. You don’t have to avoid the past. You needn’t attach to sorrow either, wearing it as a badge pinned not into your shirt but into your heart.

Instead, when you are ready for real relief, you can move powerfully into the present. You can consciously bring a painful event into your awareness and examine it. What happened from your point of view? What emotions does it make you feel? Begin to express your story with the purpose of moving beyond it to healing.

Begin by being honest. There is no point in hiding from your pain. You can’t keep a secret from yourself, can you? Since you can’t, find a private moment, perhaps sitting in your bedroom or walking alone. Tell yourself and your Source the story as you experienced it. As you do, observe. Be both the storyteller and the listener.

Let your thoughts and feelings spill out. It’s okay to be raw. Just say what is in your heart. Let yourself cry or rage. Tears may be needed to melt the icy hurt within so you can become free. Realize you are not the person you were at the moment these things occurred. You have grown and changed.

Don’t worry that your pain will overcome you. Let me assure you that the True You, the Grand Spirit you are, is far greater than any traumatic experience, belief or emotion. As you welcome hurt into your awareness, you will begin to see that You are not your pain. These memories are only passing clouds in the vast sky of You.

You might consider writing your story down. Journaling is a proven way of allowing deep disappointments, betrayals and desires to emerge. You may be shocked at details you begin to recall. Let it all come: the fury, the terror, the woundedness, the longing, the intensity.

Allow your words and feelings to flood the page. Let yourself be brutally honest. If you need to, you can tear up or burn your work when you are done to maintain your privacy. As best you can, watch yourself process your pent-up emotions and imprisoning beliefs.

If writing doesn’t suit you, try painting, drawing, sculpture, music, dance or drama—use your imagination. Find the medium right for your soul. Expect surprising insights. See what happens. Many great works of art are born from deep suffering. As you heal, you may find that your deepest griefs are being transformed into gifts you can share with others.

Once you have opened to healing, you may sense that you are ready to confide in a counselor or friend. Expressing your pain is an essential component to well-being. If our families, communities and countries are to move towards wholeness, we must welcome wholeness ourselves. We do that when we bring our past into the present with the intention of healing .

Own your past. Honor it. Open to seeing yourself with LOVE. Let your experiences, even the darkest ones, become the raw materials through which you create your masterpiece of life.

TAKE OFF YOUR MASK

Are you comfortable looking in the mirror? When you do, what do you see? Is it a friend? Or someone you don’t like very much, maybe even someone you are ashamed of? If your answer was self-critical, ask yourself why. What is it that dissatisfies you?

We are embarrassed about our appearance, our personality, our relatives, our income, our social standing, our accent, the shade of our skin, our tribe of origin, our education…you finish your list. Have you considered the ramifications of these self-judgments? Have you really sat with them and let yourself feel their impact on your heart and mind?

I have. At many points in my life insecurity dominated my self-view. During my teenage years I disliked my “big” body. I felt fat, uncomfortable in my own skin. My thoughts were consumed with schemes to change my body so that I could feel better about myself. None of them worked.

When I attended Princeton, I carried my dis-ease with me. I couldn’t see myself as a tall, strong athlete. Instead, I interpreted my frame as heavy and clumsy. At Princeton, my self-criticism intensified. I felt inferior to my peers—many came from elite families with fabulous wealth while I was from a single-parent home where we had to trust each month that we would meet the bills.

My schoolmates all seemed so intellectual that I questioned whether I had the academic prowess to fit in. These insecurities generated depression. I often shrank from gatherings. If I went, I stayed in the background, smiling but uneasy, afraid that someone would discover my inadequacies. I couldn’t fully enjoy my successes on the basketball court or in the classroom because my vision was clouded with self doubt.

Feelings of shame create deep, personal pain that we try to ignore and hide. We don’t want anyone else to see us as we fear we are. Shame colors all our relationships. Somehow, we have concluded that we are flawed while others are “normal”.

So, we make a mask to hide behind, not realizing that we are covering all that is good, beautiful and unique about us. Gradually we build up an artificial identity–maybe by wearing certain fashions, dropping names, driving big cars, by remaining aloof or being the life of the party.

As others buy this superficial image, we become more and more invested in maintaining it. We have worked hard to convince other people that we are cool, we are fine, and we are important. Everyone else appears to be doing well. We fear that if they “really knew us” they might laugh, disapprove or even worse, reject us. We become proud of this persona.

We keep up the pretense. We become experts at putting on smiles, even when we’re crying inside. The further we go the more terrified we become. We think that if the “truth” about our life is uncovered, our lives will be shattered. Ironically we are already shattered inside. We feel helpless, lost, and unable to put ourselves back together.

This silent suffering is a worldwide epidemic.

What we believe to be our own private and unique misery is actually very common. How sad to feel so alone when the heartaches of the human experience visit us all. Because we hold onto our self-rejection, we inevitably feel unacceptable to others. Many of us know the despair of having judged and sentenced ourselves to the verdict “Not Worthy.”

As we tire with the charade, we turn to addictions. Our anger festers. What is the underlying cause of all this self-hatred and agony? I came to realize that my feelings of inadequacy began because my father abandoned me and deep within I came to believe that this happened because there was something wrong with me.

What caused your negative self-view? Poor self-image develops in a subtle way and often early. For many, it stems from physical, emotional, mental or sexual abuse from family, friends or strangers. We carry these early imprints as secrets and they remain unhealed. We ache inside, wishing we could erase painful memories, yearning for relief from our inner wounds. Paradoxically, the more we push these issues aside, the more power we give them.

The only relief is to return to ourselves. We must begin to look honestly within and ask for Help.

When we begin to open up about our story we realize we are not the only ones suffering!

I’ve had encounters recently with people who were trapped by shame and pain of the past. One man in particular was unusually embarrassed by his family background and level of education. I saw him as warm, friendly, and articulate but that wasn’t his view. He believed he was a poor communicator, inadequate at making friends. Although he was well-liked, those close to him were frustrated. They couldn’t understand his negativity. What did it matter that his family of origin was poor?

For years, he had kept a painful secret: he had been sexually abused as a child. He had told no one because he assumed it had been his fault. His own innocence had never occurred to him. He had suffered intensely for almost two decades, feeling completely alone. He found it difficult to sleep. Pain poisoned every aspect of his life. Finally, after years of silence and growing distress, he confided in someone he trusted and the door to healing opened. Gradually, he was able to share his stories with others close to him.

I’m not suggesting that you should blurt out your deepest secrets today. What I am saying is that in private moments with yourself you can take off your mask. Begin to look at yourself. Instead of scrutinizing yourself with judgment, why not look at yourself with the compassion of your Source? Admit your fears and insecurities; own your wounds and secrets. Lovingly acknowledge them to yourself and the Divine. This may seem like a tiny step but it is a profoundly powerful move toward personal transformation.

I am sitting in a coffee shop finishing this article, and a man has just walked through the door. Astonishingly the message on his t-shirt reads, “Take your mask off.” Oh how the Universe loves each of us! What we need always appears in the moment.

Start where you are. Imagine how different you would feel if you took your mask off, looked in the mirror and opened to the possibility of viewing yourself with loving eyes.

What we feel shame about (and are most afraid for others to know) is not what makes us different but what binds us together. How it does is our choice.

Mute discomfort opened to healing can become compassionate connection.

Food For Thought: “Ring the bells that still can ring.
Forget your perfect offering.
There is a crack in everything;
That is how the light gets in.”
(lyrics by Leonard Cohen, from his album “The Future”)

Bright Blessings,
Patricia

Deepen Your Faith by Patricia G. Omoqui

“When you have come to the edge Of all light that you know And are about to drop off into the darkness Of the unknown, Faith is knowing One of two things will happen: There will be something solid to stand on or You will be taught to fly.”
(a quote by Patrick Overton)

********

Do you feel lost in the darkness of uncertainty?

Many people I encounter these days are struggling—facing layoffs, worried about the volatile world financial situation, concerned about paying their bills, dealing with difficult partners and challenging children. They feel exhausted from wrestling with their fears; their mind continually frets. How will they make it through yet another crisis?

We often become frantic when trouble strikes. Anxiety distorts our thoughts. Sleepless nights become the norm. Could it be there is a different approach to take when walking through difficulty?

When our hearts are shattered and our lives are crumbling, how can we deepen our faith and walk calmly forward?

In recent months, I have experienced times of darkness in my own journey. I am learning that, especially in moments of intense inner struggle, I can open to see a glimmer of hope.

As I quiet my mind and pull myself completely into the present moment, I become aware of a deep tranquility that surrounds me and infuses my soul. I am always amazed when I feel peace in the midst of the storms of life.

Whispers come to me from the Universe, “Dear One, have you always been provided for?” My Soul answers, “Yes.”

Another question follows, “Have you eaten today?” I respond, “Yes.” Spirit continues, “Do you have a place to lay your head tonight?” My heart echoes back another, “Yes.” The voice inquires, “Have you always been provided for these 35 years?” I humbly respond, “Yes, I have.” With this knowing, why do I doubt?

How could there be any fear left in my heart when I have constantly been cared for and kept safe? Again and again I’m reminded that hard times in life are opportunities in shadowy disguises. Each challenge is a gift, wrapped carefully and chosen specifically for me to experience.

I see clearly now that each apparent crisis has stretched me and molded me into a more compassionate person.

Since life changes are inevitable, why do I resist them? In the deepest cavern of my soul I still react with a silent scream of terror, “What if I am not going to be okay? What if my whole life falls apart? What if I lose those who love me? What if I am left penniless?” Even as I say I believe in the power of the Universe, I realize fragments of fear are still embedded in my inner being.

These fears imprison me. I want complete freedom. So, I understand the value of feeling shattered. I’ve been at that point recently. What I realized is that this is a breaking down of my ego. These circumstances overwhelm me, showing me that I can’t control the outcomes in my life. I can only choose my response.

I finally surrender fully, seeing that I can’t figure out the solutions on my own. At last, in my brokenness, the love of the Universe flows through me, comforting and uplifting me.

It is a blessing to be faced with our deepest fears. When we get out of our own way, allowing Spirit to permeate us, the space for the miraculous is opened. Why would I choose to struggle when the Universe can carry me? Why must I be so determined to do it all on my own when I am offered Divine help?

The Universe beckons each one of us to TRUST.

These challinging times are for deepening our faith. They are opportunities to join with Spirit to look at our fears head-on and allow them to be dissolved.

Are you willing to let go and let God work? You will not be disappointed. In fact, there is immense relief in SURRENDER.

Of course, we still must take the steps, one-by-one, to which we are guided. What we release is our need to let our thoughts (and minds) spin us into endless confusion, trying to figure it all out.

Why would I stay in my small mind when I have access to Universal wisdom?

There is a place in every storm, the eye, where safety and stillness can be found. How can we as individuals—families and communities—consciously move into this space when it feels like our lives are falling apart?

I’d like to share some ideas with you from my own experience – the things that I see work for me and for my life-coaching clients. If you take the time to apply these ideas consistently in your life, you will find a way to move more calmly through times of great difficulty:

Stay fully present.
I remind myself of this all the time. Release the baggage of the past. Trust the future to your Higher Power. Place your attention on what is happening right now. This is the formula for peace. As you do this, you will be guided to the next step.

Understand you are not alone.
Find comfort with friends and family members who you trust. If you do not have this support, remember that Spirit surrounds you with love and holds you in times of darkness. You are never, never alone.

Take stock of your miracles.
If you are going to focus on the past, then review the many ways that you’ve had amazing resolutions to issues you have faced. Take the time to recount these miracles whether they are big or small. By doing so, you will revitalize your hope and remind yourself that you are truly loved and cared for.

Savor every bit of Good.
In times of stress and challenge, try to bring your attention to everything good in life. Whether it is a glass of water or a mouthful of food, a hug from a friend or a smile from a stranger, give thanks. We often become so focused on our problems that we fail to notice the positives, yet they are always present.

Allow yourself to feel what you feel.
Bring your deep, heartfelt emotions up to the surface. Don’t ignore them. Embrace these emotions even though they feel intense. By experiencing them honestly you learn that you are bigger than these emotions. If you allow them to run their course, they pass, leaving a space into which peace can flow.

Use affirmations as reminders.
In my dark times, I use the following statements to help me focus:
“All is well. All is on schedule. I open to miracles. I trust the Universe. I am safe. I am cared for. I am secure. My daily needs are provided. I deepen my faith. I learn and grow from every circumstance.”
Words are powerful activators of the possibilities within us.

Your assignment this week is to notice a fear that is causing you distress. Observe the impact it has on how you feel. Watch what it does to your heart, your mind and your body. Then, use the above steps to deal with it in a different way.

The more honestly you monitor your own experience in each moment, the more peace and power you will find. You can learn to walk calmly through each moment of life.

Poetic Food For Thought:

The Place of Peace
(by Edward Markham)

“At the heart of the cyclone tearing the sky
And flinging the clouds and the towers by,
Is a place of central calm:
So here in the roar of mortal things,
I have a place where my spirit sings,
In the hollow of God’s palm.”

Though Alan’s mystical wisdom comes to us “from the stars”, the “stardust” that we are left with allows us to shine brighter—even as we remain grounded and joyous within our 3-d Earth reality.

A DOTS Reader’s (Regina) Question for “Ask Alan”:

Since I was a little girl I have felt a strong connection to Spirit through the earth, animals and how we are all related and intertwined. I am also called to serve in this lifetime and finally listening to my inner voice more. My question is related to this. I want to learn so many different skills such as healing, mediumship, communication with animals and so much more. What should I be focusing on more specifically? I find it hard to decide and can lose my focus because of this. Should I take a Reiki class or find a class more related to Native American ways? Where will I find the teachers or mentors or group where I need to be focused on the most? Is moving to a different state in the future for me where I will be more likely to grow the most? Thank you for your insight in advance. Many Blessings Brother, Regina
