A COPING SKILL FOR THE MODERN AGE: Practicing Detachment

[Dance of the Spirit endorses this sage advice from Tonja Edgecomb, a regular contributor to DOTS. We also believe that many of you will find GREAT COMFORT in her words as you apply this philosophy to your life journey on 3-d Earth. We wish you Peace and Much Joy, Crystal Claire Waters]

Detachment allows us to separate ourselves from the demands of our physical existence; it also reminds us that we are spiritual beings having a human experience.
Detachment allows us to put events (as they occur) into perspective. It eliminates the ego and gives us the chance to see things from “outside” of the unfolding experience.
In our daily lives, we are confronted by challenging situations (and people) that cause us to forget our true self, the DIVINE Self.
During these moments, it’s important to remember the why (the reasons why) people respond as they do within any given situation. Is it because of their thinking, feelings, past trauma or other personal history that they react in a particular way to a particular event?

The way others treat you is never because of you. It is always because of their individual thinking (often unconscious and pattern-based) in response to a situation.
The way that you respond to events in life (and to others) is also because of your own pattern-based thinking and underlying feelings. Not because of someone else or their words or behavior.
It is easy to say: “You made me” or “Because of you” . . . but these are merely verbal expressions, often used by someone who made choices they are not willing to accept responsibility for making.
Stay in control of your EGO (and witness any given situation) by truly “seeing” it for what it really is. Strive for the kind of awareness that allows you to see the Big Picture, the greater (COSMIC) Point-of-View.
Practice detachment. Remember who you really are. You are a Divine Being.
Practice compassion for others (and the lessons they are learning) but do not become part of the drama.

We all have a journey to complete in this incarnation. Detachment is a key lesson that we must learn on 3-d Earth. The better we are able to detach from stressful situations, the better we are able to maintain our energy levels and empower ourselves.
Staying focused within the moment (even moments of crisis) will allow you to be detached when necessary. Eventually, this greater awareness will aid you in maintaining your real self, your true identity, the true YOU.
Blessings, Tonja

“When you become detached mentally from yourself and concentrate on helping other people with their difficulties, you will be able to cope with your own more effectively. Somehow, the act of self-giving is a personal power-releasing factor.”
