Some shamans believe that nothing occurs in ordinary reality unless it has first been dreamed. Whether it be daydreams or the illusive details found within the dream states of deep sleep, we can all strive to be DreamCatchers. Such an ability would allow us to choose carefully between possible, whispered futures. Conscious Dreaming allows us to tune into integral, intimate aspects of ourselves. It is this “inner observer” that remains aware of (and actively interacts with) the many planes of existence …. expanding the possibilities that Life has to offer.
A devotional exercise of daily meditation can fine-tune your “cosmic receiver” . . . allowing you to hear cosmic “broadcasts” that are normally drowned out in a fast-paced, noisy western world. Concisely, Richard Dawkins writes, “After sleeping through a hundred million centuries, we have finally opened our eyes on a sumptuous planet, sparkling with color, bountiful with life. Within decades, we must close our eyes again. Isn’t it a noble, enlightened way of spending our brief time in the sun, to work at understanding the universe and how we have come to wake up in it?”
Likewise, Richard Bach states so poetically in The Messiah’s Handbook, ” If you will practice being fictional for a while, you will come to understand that fictional characters are sometimes more real than people with bodies and heartbeats.” In other words, we can be (and are) the stuff that dreams are made of.
When we are dreaming, what we are experiencing feels as real as anything in the “awake” world. It is significant that what matters most, whether we be awake or asleep, is often underscored with profound emotion. If you can dream it, if you can feel it, then you can realize it. Drive your dreams, with gusto and true feeling.
For “extra credit”, google the term “lucid dreaming” and see what pops up. Keep a dream journal and strive to “program yourself” (this can become a nightly ritual just before succumbing to sleep) to have pleasant, enjoyable dreams as often as possible. A dream journal, kept readily at-hand next to the bed, will help you mark your progress.
Also, create a “scrapbook of dreams” that includes pictures, words, poetry, inspirational quotes, cut-outs from magazines, anything and everything that helps you connect with the vision of your ultimate life. Your own, personal Conscious Dreaming Book should enhance that “over the rainbow” feeling each and every time you sit and turn the pages. (Take time to BE <with and within> your Conscious Dreaming Book just before meditation sessions. This is a powerful tool for manifesting a bountiful reality, the kind of reality you’d prefer to live in, whether “awake” or “asleep” within any Moment of Now.)
Be a real-life Daydream Believer as you set your imagination to work. Reflection will teach you patience, discipline, and the ultimate maxims for success . . . confirmed by Love, Joy, and Plenty. Finally, I refer to the wise words of Richard Bach one more (but not the last) time: “What you knew before you were born isn’t lost. You only hide it till you’re tested, till it’s time to remember. And sure enough, when you want, you’ll find some odd funny beautiful way to find it again.”
The beginning point must be stillness. Stop and Listen to that quiet observer … the real YOU that dwells at the core of your Spirit. Be the Receiver … Tune your “radio dial” to the Divine Realm. Ask and you shall receive. If you do this, dear DreamCatcher, you will someday realize who you really are: an intelligent being, conscious and eternal, unbounded by space and time.
